The End: No Where Near Nigh

07.09.2003

In every age and every generation there have been prophets who have believed and predicted that the end of the world was near, that within their lifetime the hand of God was going to wipe the earth clean of His enemies.

However, despite the thousands and thousands of such predictions over the centuries of human history, the end of the world has never come to pass. And I believe that the information that science has presented us with in the last few centuries indicates that such an end will not arrive for a very long time.

According to astrosociety.org, scientists now "predict that the Sun will be able to fuse hydrogen into helium in its core at about the same rate for another 5 billion years." (reference) Whether or not this estimation is totally accurate remains to be seen (but not by us, of course, we'll all be long gone by then), but the fact is that our star (i.e. the Sun) has a lot left in her to keep us safe and warm.

Given these facts, however, it makes no logical sense for the Creator to have formed our star so that it has enough hydrogen fuel to heat our planet at the current rate for another 5 billion years, only to destroy the earth any time remotely soon (soon, at least, as humans reckon time).

Therefore, logically, the end is nowhere near nigh - at least, no end brought about by the will of God.
