Abortion and God
10.10.2002
First off, I believe that abortion is murder. I believe that since any determination of when life begins in a fetus, other than at the point of conception, is completely arbitrary, I also believe that nearly all abortionists - the mothers who request them and the doctors who perform them - are murderers. Indeed, the only exception to this in my mind is when the life of the mother is in danger, and an abortion is the only thing that will save her.
However, using the position of the Judao/Christian god (hereafter referred to as Yahweh) of the Christian Bible or the Jewish Torah as a representative in support of this belief would be both illogical and inconsistant with those texts. Indeed, were that god to actually state such a position, it would be a case of him telling us, "Do as I say, not as I do." If the Bible or Torah be believed as factual history, if they are, as believers in those documents say, the Truth and the Word of Yahweh, then he is the most infamous, cruelest abortionist in the history of mankind.
The Flood (Noachian Deluge)
Most people in Western culture are familiar with the story of The Flood, a.k.a. the Noachian Deluge. For those who are not, a quick synopsis:
At one point, the god Yahweh realized that his creation had failed because all the people of the earth had become wicked and sinful in his eyes. While his creation had failed, Yahweh evidently didn't want to start completely over with his creation so he chose the most righteous man in his estimation that he could find, that being Noah, and commanded him to build a great ship. Noah, with help from his family, built the ship and then, again under command from Yahweh, collected 2 (or is it seven?) of each type of animal that roamed the earth and brought them aboard along with his immediate family. Yahweh then sent his sentence of judgement to the sinful inhabitants of the earth in the form of a worldwide flood that killed every animal - including every man, woman and child - that walked dry land. Then, after the flood dried up, Noah, his family and his collected animals repopulated the entire earth.
Now, if this story is true, this is well nigh enough to prove my point, that Yahweh himself is the most infamous and callous abortionist in history. If in fact this story be true, and Yahweh really did destroy the entirety of humankind (with the exception of a select few) by flood or any other means, then Yahweh is a murderer of an innumberable amount of innocents, of which must necessarily have included unborn children residing in the wombs of many of the women of that generation, likely numbering in the millions.
Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha
Most people in Western culture are also familiar with the story of Yahweh's destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha, but again for those who are not familiar with this Biblical story, here's a quick synopsis.
Having promised to never again judge the earth by flood after the Noachian Deluge, Yahweh switched to judgement by fire and brimstone that he would rain down from 'the firmament' of the heavens. An example of this is his destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha. Having determined that all of the inhabitants of those cities (except for a man named Lot, his wife and his two daughters "which had not know man") were exceedingly wicked and needed killing, Yahweh waited for Lot and his family to leave the city and then rained down his holy fire and brimstone, destroying both cities and every living thing within them.
Yet again, if this story is to be believed, then Yahweh is again proved as a most unrighteous murderer of innocent people, for there must necessarily have been very young children and babies, as well as unborn children in the wombs of soon to be mothers, who had never had the chance to be born, let alone become wicked and in need of judgement.
There are certainly other such passages in the Bible where Yahweh destroys the innocent as well as the 'sinful' - or commands the patriarchs of Israel to do it for him - but I believe that these few examples here are more than sufficient to debunk the idea of using the god of the Bible or Torah as a representative of the Right to Life of unborn children.
