Recommended Modifications & Tools
While BioWare did an excellent job of creating a great user interface and some great game features, there are a few things that might have been done to enhance the game experience. The hacks, patches and modifications listed here are those that my friends and I consider "cool" editions to the NwN experience. These are third party modifications, so while I recommend them I am in no way responsible for them or their behavior towards you, your computer system or your NwN game experience.
All files mentioned on this page are located on other websites.
Another interesting list of hacks, modifications, tools, etc. can be found here.
Leto Character (.bic) Editor Rating: 4/5
Download Site [Neverwinter Vault]
Careful with this one! A powerful editor, but it is beta software and still under development. Use at your own risk!
This is a cool program to edit your character. You can edit things like ability scores, background, portrait, deity, and character level. The development team is hard at work adding new features.
My buddy and I found that it only seems to work for editing local characters - or at least we haven't been able to find where server characters are stored (my friend runs a server, and we tried to find my character on his machine, but no dice) - we think they're imbedded in the saved game file itself.
If you think this is a cheating tool, think again. Yes, someone could 'cheat' and make an ultra powerful character. However, remember that server rules regarding "legal" characters still apply, at least on those servers where the server admin has such rules enabled (most do, I think). If you play on a non-legal server, then you should expect some cheating anyway and are probably there because you want to cheat and don't mind playing with fellow cheaters - there are many other ways to cheat than Leto.
Secondly, this tool can be used for very legitimate purposes as well. For example, what if you wish to add information to your character's background? The game doesn't allow you to do this, but Leto does! Or what if you have a great module you just downloaded, designed for 5th level characters, but you have no 5th level characters handy? Again, Leto lets you do this.
This tool gets a 4/5 rating, losing one point ONLY because it is beta software. I have a feeling that any final version will get a 5/5 rating...

NDubyaConfig Rating: 5/5
Download Site [Geocities]
This works alongside BioWare's NWConfig.exe application, allowing you to, among other things, disable the opening splash screens (how many times have you seen the logos for Atari, Bioware and Wizards?). This is a nice, easy to use program, with context sensitive information displayed for each setting.
How To Change Updater Skin Graphics Rating: N/A
Info Site [BioWare]
Cool, albeit not really a tool or modification, this gives you information on how to change the image (or 'skin') that you see while the Neverwinter Nights auto updater installs new patches! For some downloadable updater skins, see my Updater Skins page.
NwN Character Organizer Rating: N/A
Download Site [NWVault]
This is a shameless plug for a tool of my own creation. It helps organize and archive your NwN saved character files.
