This is a map that I began YEARS ago as a Quake "Classic" map. However, at the time my imagination was more powerful than the current technology... but technology has finally caught up with my head (well, not totally, but in this case yes). In short, neither Quake nor Quake II could deal with this map, due to the high "polygon count." In those engines, the map would flake out constantly, with portions of the church, sky, etc. going grey or clear, making for an unenjoyable experience. In contrast, Quake III - at least with my TNT2 card - is (so far) fully capable of rendering this church. In fact, I've added about 1000% more spires, and quite a bit more internal architecture - not to mention the frame-rate killing fog that covers the entire map.
The map is in no way complete (there are SOME problems with Frames Per Second), but I wanted to let you see the progress thus far.
Following are links to screenshots and short descriptions of the various stages of the development of this map. WARNING: The screenshot pages are graphics intensive. Hence, your download time for the Pre-Beta Screenshots page could be as much as 5-6 minutes on a 56K modem. You have been warned!
